News: Waterfront Alliance Seeks Board 7 Assistance
The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance (MWA) is seeking the support of Queens Community Board 7 in its efforts to revitalize the waterways in and around Willets Point. In the article that appears in the Queens Gazette, Carter Craft of the MWA is quoted:
“Flushing Bay hasn’t gotten the attention and investment it really deserves.”
The MWA asked Community Board 7 to bring attention to the waterway and to actively support efforts to improve the waterway.
The MWA brings attention to the horrid state of Flushing Bay and the river the separates Willets Point and Flushing. They describe the contaminated and dirty conditions that need to be fixed in order to take advantage of the waterfront location of these neighborhoods.
I’m really glad to see a group advocating for the improvement of the waterways around Willets Point. It’s something that is definitely a necessary component of any development that will take place, and it must not be overlooked. That being said, based upon the article, the MWA is a little vague on details. I definitely encourage anyone who’s interested to get involved in their efforts. A beautiful, green waterway would be a key component to the new neighborhood in Willets Point.
