Update: Monserrate and Stringer Pushing for Hearing Delay
Councilman Hiram Monserrate and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer are pushing for the delay of the City Planning Commission’s hearings scheduled for tomorrow. The Commission is set to hold hearings on three issues: the Lower East Side Rezoning, Hunters Point South and Willets Point. Stringer and Monserrate are claiming each of the issues deserves its own day of hearings and that the public voice will not be heard as a result of the schedule.
Seems like nothing more than a last minute attempt by Councilman Monserrate to throw of the Willets Point schedule.

“By grouping the hearings on these actions together, the Commission risks limiting the amount and quality of public participation for one, or even all three items, by forcing community members to wait for overly long periods of time before being heard. This delay is likely to frustrate community members and may drive away speakers, thereby limiting the breadth of expressed community opinions. Such a consequence is contrary to the spirit of a public hearing.”
since Monteserrate and the WP protesters are all on the clock for this protest I can see why the WPIRA wants to delay and get their own time..
additionally, if these “speakers and community members” are so dedicated to the cause get a folding chair and wait your turn to speak your mind.. democracy sometimes requires standing in line
